Day 23-Are states serious?

Talks are starting about opening up certain states and lifting restrictions so the economy can start getting back on track. This is going to happen without a reliable treatment and vaccine?? Are we that desperate to get the economy going again that we are willing to risk new major outbreaks. Weren’t we trying to flatten the curve and not put crushing pressure on our hospitals and health care workers? Let’s say you loosen restrictions and the economy improves but the one trade-off is there are now 100,000 new cases of the virus. What then? Go back into quarantine? Start complaining about not enough mask, PPE and ventilators because we have a sudden surge? As long as we make progress daily, it is what we want. We need to stick with what is working so far which is to limit new cases and buy time for an effective treatment and ultimately a vaccine. Let’s use the sport of basketball for an analogy. Your team is trailing by 30 points and now you are making baskets and cut the lead down to 15 points. Same with the virus. We are making progress and winning small battles. You keep doing what you are doing with the same players on the court. You don’t go and call a timeout and bring in your bench players. If you do, chances are you will lose momentum and let the other team stretch the lead back over 20 points. We need to put our foot on the gas pedal until we cross the finish line. We must take the same approach with the Coronavirus.
